About Cars Unpacked

Buying a car usually means a dozen open tabs: the dealer site, a few forums, a couple of YouTube reviews, a safety-ratings database, and an owner complaints thread you found at midnight. Cars Unpacked pulls all of it into one place, for one car at a time, so you can actually compare your options instead of hunting for them.

What we do

Every car we cover gets the same treatment: real safety and reliability data from sources like NHTSA, IIHS, and Consumer Reports, EPA efficiency numbers, a synthesis of what actual reviewers and owners are saying (publications, YouTubers, and owner forums, not manufacturer marketing), and an honest editor's take that says plainly what a car is good at and where it falls short. We keep it updated rather than publishing once and walking away.

Who we are

Cars Unpacked is run by Ben Wachtel, a car enthusiast for over 35 years. In that time he's owned everything from a turbocharged Audi S3 to a Tesla Model 3 Performance, and everything in between, high-performance EVs and sedans alike. He does his own wrenching rather than leaving every job to a shop, and he's an avid consumer of car review content himself: the kind of person who reads through owner forums and watches teardown videos long before ever sitting in a car for a test drive.

Cars Unpacked exists because that research process shouldn't take a dozen open tabs. It's built to be the single place Ben wished existed when he was doing that digging himself. Cars Unpacked is a division of Dynamic CRO.
